Valley Veterans strike Gold!
Valley Veterans was one of eight employers presented with the prestigious Defence Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS) Gold Award at a special ceremony on board HMS CAMBRIA, Cardiff Bay on 24th September.
The Gold ERS Award is presented in recognition of the outstanding support given to the Armed Forces community.
The evening began with a drinks reception when guests were treated to music from Cerys Rees regimental harpist of The Royal Welsh. There was also a ceremonial sunset ceremony with a performance from The Corps of Drums from The Band of His Majesty’s Royal Marines Plymouth.
The compère for the evening was Sian Lloyd, with the opening address given by Neil ‘Jacko’ Jackson, Director Defence Relationship Management. Rear Admiral Andy Perks MBE, Director Submarines, gave the keynote address.
During the awards ceremony, guests were entertained by The Band of His Majesty’s Royal Marines Plymouth Brass Quintet.
The awards were presented jointly by Rear Admiral Perks, Commodore Tris Kirkwood OBE ADC, Naval Regional Commander Wales, Western England and Channel Island, Brigadier Mark Davis CBE, Commander 160th (Welsh) Brigade, Head of the Army in Wales and Air Officer Wales, Air Commodore Rob Woods OBE.
Awarded by the Ministry of Defence, the Employer Recognition Scheme formally recognises organisations that employ and support those who serve in the Armed Forces, veterans and their families. Across the UK, 162 organisations received the Gold award this year.
Minister for Veterans and People, Calvin Bailey MBE MP said:
"For a veteran starting a new chapter, or a Reservist balancing two demanding roles, having an employer in your corner makes an enormous difference.
“These 162 organisations have gone out of their way to make veterans, Reservists and military families feel genuinely welcome and supported. I'm incredibly proud to recognise them today, and I hope their example inspires many more."
The Armed Forces Covenant is a promise by the nation ensuring that those who serve or who have served in the Armed Forces, and their families, are treated fairly.
